Downloading Music

[top]

How does downloading work?

We have tried to make downloading as simple as possible. After you have entered your PIN Code or created an account with available credits, you can download your music by using a Download Manager or by downloading one file at a time.

If you choose to use the Download Manager, all your files will download to your computer in a fast and easy way and will be placed into a directory of your choosing - see image below:

Do I have to use a Download Manager?

No. You can select "one file at a time". However, the files are large and the recommended download method is using the Download Manager.

How many times can I download?

You can download once. However, if the download fails you will be able to retry the download and get any remaining files that were not downloaded to your computer. If you have an account, go to the Order History page; from there you will be able to retry the download. If you have a PIN only account, attempt the download process again.

My browser closed or I lost my internet connection before downloading all the files. How do I continue?

If you have created an account, log back into the site, go to 'Account' and then click on 'Order History' - from there, you will be able to track your order and re-download any tracks that were missed because of the browser closure or connection interruption.

In what format do the music downloads get delivered?

The audio files are in MP3 format and are encoded at a high bit rate of 320kbps.

I can't play audio previews. What should I do?

Check that the volume on your computer is turned on (and up) and that the speakers are on. And please note that you may need to adjust your pop-up blocker settings.

Why do I get a warning when opening the Download Manager?

On the PC, you'll get a warning that you're about to save an application. The Download Manager is a small application than can run from a temporary location. If you save the download manager to a folder or the desktop then you can simply delete the download manager once you've completed the download of all your content.

On the Mac, you must 'Trust' the application (or applet) in order to open the Download Manager. If you do not want to do this then you can simply download one file at a time.

I selected 'Don't Trust' on my Mac, and I can't use the download manager. What do I do?

If you selected 'Don't Trust' by mistake, you should close the browser and restart the process again. Go back to www.sonymusicpass.com, and either login if you have created an account, or re-enter your PIN if you didn't create an account.

Why do I get a warning about an "unknown publisher" when opening the Download Manager (on my PC using Internet Explorer)?

The Download Manager is a small application that is custom delivered for one download only - so therefore it is not known to the browser. You must select "Run" in order to continue opening the Download Manager.

How do I download my files?

You can download your Sony MusicPass content easily by using a download manager on the PC or Mac - see image below:

Once you press 'Download Your Music' to proceed with the download manager, you will be presented with instructions for the browser you're currently using.

For Internet Explorer users (PC):

Choose "Run" (not "Save") when prompted with the Microsoft warning and then "Run" (not "Don't Run") at the Internet Explorer warning - see images below:

For Firefox users (PC):

Click "Save file", then "Open" - see images below:

For Safari users (Mac):

Choose "Trust" (not "Don't Trust") when prompted with the Safari warning - see image below:

For Firefox users (Mac):

Does the Download Manager leave anything behind on my computer?

The Download Manager does not update your computer (e.g. registry entries on the PC). If you decide to Save the Download Manager instead of running it temporarily (recommended), you'll have to delete the file from the folder that you saved it to, when you're done downloading your files.

Locating My Files

I can't find my downloaded files - where are they?

When you downloaded your files, you indicated a directory to download to. Check that directory first (probably 'Music' or 'My Music') and if you don't see your files you can do a search for the artist. Below are other ways to find your music.

If you used the Download Manager to get your music and indicated that you wanted your files to be added to iTunes® or Windows Media® Player, there should be a playlist named "Sony" within your media player. Check within that playlist for your files. If you still cannot find your files, follow the steps below.

For PC Users:

  1. Click Start button
  2. Select Search
  3. Enter the Artist name and hit Enter

For Mac Users:

Go to Spotlight and search for the Artist's name.

For PC Users:

  1. First select a folder where you would like your files to be downloaded to (default is My Music folder).

Please make sure to attend to any requests before you proceed (e.g. Do you want to upgrade iTunes®?). If you're not sure what to do you can simply import the files into iTunes® later.

For Mac users:

Adding files to your iTunes® library is the default setting on Macs. When prompted in the Download Manager with "Choose a media player to add your files?" click "Save Settings And Proceed".

How do I get my files into my Windows Media® Player library easily?

For PC Users:

  1. First select a folder where you would like your files to be downloaded to (default is My Music folder).
